town Volary

Volary ist the heart of forests in Šumava. The first notice about Volary appeared in 1359. Volary is situated 760 m above sea level within a far - reaching basin, in the middle of meadows, plains and forests surrounded by thousand - meter high Šumava Mountains. The settlement becane an important tourist centre after the fall of the "Iron Curtain". You can get lots of experiences there in summer as well as in winter. Come on!

Volary museum is located in a well preserved history timbered house. It is open from 1st mai to 30th septembre daily except monday from 10 to 17 o´clock.

Swimming pool with other services: steam bath, sauna, massages, bar, summer garden with a playground for small children.

Volary wood festival - Smell of wood is typical for those 2 days, when historic handicrafts get alive. This annual event takes place every weekend before the last one in auguste.

Alpine Architecture - is probably the main attraction in the town. The old timbered or half-timbered houses have an attic room in the front. They have roof of gable type.

Volary - the greatest town at the confluence of the river Vltava. The part of the town is a protected monument area. The old town with timbered houses is a town reservation. The next great town lying on the river Vltava is Český Krumlov, the Renaissance pearl of the Southern Bohemia.
